The War Medal 1939–1945 was a British decoration awarded to those who had served in the Armed Forces or Merchant Navy full-time for at least 28 days between 3 September 1939 and 2 September 1945.
The War Medal 1939-45 is circular cupro-nickel, 36mm in diameter with the crowned effigy of King George VI on the obverse facing left. The reverse has a lion standing on a double-headed fallen dragon. The top of the reverse shows the dates 1939 and 1945. The medal was designed by Edward Carter Preston.
