Mason Wasp

The Mason Wasps also known as potter wasps belong subfamily Eumeninae of  family Vespidae. There are more than 3200 species of mason wasps in more than 200 genera. The tiny Mason Wasp you see here is measuring about 5mm in length. Its head, thorax and abdomen are black with light yellow marking, while the waist is reddish. It builds a series of attached cylindrical nests, consists of three cells each. The cells are filled with paralyzed caterpillars as food for the larvae.

Yellow-Black Digger Wasp

This yellow-black digger wasp (A specie of digger wasps) is a solitary wasp belong to family Sphecidae. They dig hole in the ground or use pre-existed hole to construct their nest. Females capture and sting the prey to paralyze it. The paralyzed preys are deposited in the burrow. The wasps lay their eggs in the provisioned nest, on the body of one of the prey insects. When the larvae hatch, they feed on the paralyzed insects. They are not aggressive and do not sting people unless they are aggravated or captured by hand.

Mud Nest Pictures

Mud nest of some unknown bee/wasp, I found in a hilly area. It size and shape was just similar to a duck egg. I broke the nest to get an idea about its maker, but I found only a brown spider inside.
