Ambela Buner
Ambela is a small and beautiful village in Buner, Pakistan. It's the entrance of Buner Valley from District Mardan. Ambella is famous for "Ambela War 1863", which was fought between Mujaheddin and British army. I will post some detail of the war after consulting with my friend and colleague Mr. Rahim Zada, who has research on Ambella War. Personally I like this place for three reasons, It's natural beauty, moderate weather and a water well, which is famous for it's cool and hygienic water.

Daggar is an important town and district head quarter of District Buner, having a population of over twenty five thousand. Daggar was under the heavy army operation against militants a few days ago, which forced almost the entire population to flee the town. They migrate to other districts of the province, particularly Swabi and Mardan. Now the town is under army control, but search operation is still continue and probably people will not ready for months to go back to their homes. Here are a few pictures of Daggar town I took last year in May. The first two pictures were taken in the evening while the last two in morning, so I had to re-expose them for a better view.

Shadam-A Small Village
Shadam is a small village on the top of a mound, consists of a few houses. It's located in tehsil Amazai, district Buner of NWFP. It's a beautiful village, located on a beautiful location. This village always attract my attention during my service in district Buner. The mountain in the backgroud is the well know Mahaban mountain located in three districts, Buner, Swabi and Mansehra.

Wood Bridges
If you visit to the northern areas (Swat, Buner, Shangla, Dir, Chitral, Gilgit, Kaghan Valley, Naran Valley and Skardu etc.) of KPK (Former NWFP), Pakistan, you will find a lot of wooden bridges there. These bridges are not only a source of transportation, but also add to the beauty of these areas. The pictures below are taken at Buner, Amazai

Ranighat An Archaeological Site
Though I'm living just 20 km away from Rani Ghat (The queen's rock), a famous Gandhara archaeological site, but I never visit this site before. On 19th January 2008, I visited this site for the first time with my colleagues and students. Rani Ghat situate at Nogram, district Buner, is the famous historical palace on the top of mountain used by the that time Rani (queen). She was famous for buying the fresh air coming from Swabi side. She paid to the villagers for clean air -- they were not allowed to pollute it by blowing the crops in the air for cleaning purpose. The ruins are still a famous place for visitors. This area used to be a fairy-land for foreigners and many, including Japanese, came here for studies in the ancient times to learn Buddhism. Being a part of origin of Buddhist Gandhara Civilization it has also attracted re-construction funds from Japanese research institutes. Beside the reconstruction of the site they also arranged for way in the mountain to facilitate the visitors. Here is my collection of pictures of different views of the site, hoping you will enjoy them.
