Robber Flies

The robber flies are insects in order Diptera, family Asilidae. There are a number of species that vary greatly in color and appearance. All robber flies are predaceous, lying in wait for victims. Robber fly prey on insects such as wasps, bees, beetles, butterflies and dragonflies etc. The robber fly jabs its strong pointed proboscis into prey's back to inject the neurotoxic saliva to paralyze it and then sucks the juices out. Robber flies can deliver a painful bite to human, if handled roughly.
