Lahore Museum

Lahore Museum (Also called Central Museum) was established in 1894 in Lahore (Punjab), Pakistan and is one of the major museums of South Asia. It's located on The Mall Road. The Lahore museum was one of the places I really enjoyed during my visit to Lahore. In coming days, I will post pictures of antiques, I took at the museum.

The Lahore Zoo

The Lahore zoo was established in 1872 and there was a time when it was considered as the largest zoo of Asia. I read and heard a lot about the beauty and variety of different species of animals in Lahore zoo. But my first visit to the zoo was very discouraging. I found the animals in very measurable conditions. The animal were kept in unnatural environment. The only thing I liked there were the models of different animals. Here are some pictures I took in the zoo.

Badshahi Mosque Lahore

The Badshahi Mosque (The Emperor's Mosque) was built in 1673, by the sixth Mughul emperor Aurangzeb. It's the second largest mosque in Pakistan, after the Faisal Mosque in Islamabad. Its construction was completed in a record time of two and a half years. The mosque is entirely made of marble and red stand stone. Its main entrance measures 21.33 meters in length and a courtyard of 161.5 x 160.6 meters. The marble domes cover seven prayer chambers, surrounded by four minarets at the four corners of the mosque, each with an outer circumference of 20 meters, soaring up to 54 meters. The walls and roofs of the prayer halls have tastefully decorated with Islamic calligraphy, traditional Persian tile sheathing and fresco.

The Lahore Fort-Shahi Qila

The Lahore Fort- Shahi Qila (Royal Fort) is one of the most popular tourist spot of Lahore in Pakistan. It is located in the northwestern corner of the Walled City of Lahore. The trapezoidal composition is spread over 20 hectares. Origins of the Lahore fort and the city go back to 1200 BC , however, the existing base structure was built during the reign of Mughal emperor Akbar (1556-1605), and was regularly upgraded by subsequent rulers. Thus the fort manifests the rich traditions of the entire Mughal architecture. In 1981, the fort was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Beggars

Here are some pictures of beggars, I took at general bus stand Swabi. The first two men are heroin addicts. The first man was a peon in Deputy Commissioner office Swabi. But after being a prey to the heroin, he left the job and started begging. The 2nd man is also a heroin addict. They get a large portion of their income from women, by deceiving them with their sad stories and prayers.

Green Lacewings

Green lacewings are insects in the large family Chrysopidae of the order Neuroptera. It is interesting that lacewings are reared and sold as biological control agents of aphids, mites and scale insects in agriculture and gardens. The species found in our area is the Common Green Lacewing (Nothancyla verreauxi), which belong to subfamily Apochrysinae.

Here are pictures of Green Lacewing Eggs, I found after half an hour search. The females Lacewings lay eggs singly or in small groups on stems or leaves near aphid colonies. Eggs are oval and pale green in color. Each egg is attached to the stem or leaf  by about 1 cm long thread-like stalk. The eggs take about four days to hatch.
